FAQ

Q: Who is eligible to apply for a grant from The Jones Family Foundation?

A: Qualified 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organizations which are tax exempt as defined by the Internal Revenue Code AND are located within a 30-mile radius of Red Wing, Minnesota may apply.

 

Q: How do we submit a grant application?

A: Click here to register your organization and complete our online application.

 

Q: What are the grant deadlines?

A: The Jones Family Foundation utilizes grant cycles and reviews grant requests three times a year. The grant application deadlines are February 1, July 1, and October 1.

 

Q: When will we be notified regarding the outcome of our grant application?

A: Applications are reviewed three times per year (March, August and November). Applicants will be notified within two weeks following the end of each grant cycle (by April 15, September 15 and December 15).

 

Q: If my application is not approved, will the Foundation explain why?

A: Whenever possible, we will explain the reason for the declination.

 

Q: Can we ask for funding for operating expenses or general support or does it have to be for specific programs or projects?

A: An organization may apply for funding for general support or operating expenses, however, the application must provide evidence that the organization has a fundraising plan in place in order to support its operations on an ongoing basis moving forward. The Jones Family Foundation does not wish organizations to become dependent on our funding for their operations.

 

Q: Does the Jones Family Foundation provide funding for capital projects (bricks and mortar)?

A: These projects generally receive low priority from the Foundation.

 

Q: Does the Foundation offer multi-year grants?

A: The Foundation considers multi-year grants on a limited basis to programs and initiatives in our priority areas.

 

Q: Is there a limit to the amount of funding we can request?

A: Organizations are encouraged to ask for amounts that are consistent with their needs as outlined in the application. Our Foundation also encourages organizations to look to other funding sources for funding as it does not wish to become the sole funding source for a program or project.

 

Q: Does the Foundation conduct site visits?

A: The Foundation may request a site visit to learn more about your organization or program as part of the grant review process.
