The Jones Family Foundation Scholarship
The Jones Family Foundation has a long history of investing in post-secondary education for Red Wing High School and Tower View Alternative High School students. The Jones Family Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 to honor the legacy of Ora G. Jones, one of the Foundation's founding members. Ora felt strongly that educational opportunities should be offered not only to those students who have consistently maintained exception levels of academic achievement and extra-curricular participation, but also to those who have overcome obstacles or demonstrated future potential through academic improvement and personal growth. Since 2001, Jones Family Foundation scholarships have been awarded to over 100 students totaling over $865,000.
In 2022, our Foundation sought to revise the scholarship program to look towards greater impact. We had our sights on supporting a greater number of students in their post-secondary educational journey as well as strengthening our support of our local college, Minnesota State College Southeast, and the Red Wing Public School system.
With these focus areas in mind, a partnership was created between the Jones Family Foundation and Minnesota State College Southeast and together we developed the Red Wing College Promise program. The Red Wing College Promise initiative guarantees access to a college education at Minnesota State College Southeast to every qualifying student residing in the Red Wing School District and graduating from a Red Wing public high school (Red Wing High School, Tower View Alternative High School, or 5RiversOnline.)
This new initiative will begin with the graduating class of 2023 and will replace our Jones Family Foundation Scholarship.
If you are a current Jones Family Foundation Scholarship recipient, you will not see any changes to your scholarship. We will continue our financial commitment and process as we have in the past. If you have any questions, please contact us at 651.388.7941.
Our Foundation is excited to partner with Minnesota State College Southeast to offer this opportunity to students as both organizations share a commitment to sustaining and growing educational opportunities and economic vitality in Red Wing. Through the Red Wing College Promise, more students will be guaranteed access to a post-secondary education with the ability to earn a certificate, a one-year diploma or two-year degree at Minnesota State College Southeast.
The Red Wing College Promise will cover 100% of tuition and fees (up to 70 credits) not fulfilled by federal grants, state grants, and/or other scholarships to qualifying high school students to attend Minnesota State College Southeast. In addition, Red Wing College Promise includes:
Students Must
Be a 2023 graduate of a Red Wing
public high school (Red Wing High School,
Tower View Alternative High School, or
5RiversOnline)and a Red Wing school
district resident (open-enrollment students
and home-schooled students
are not eligible).
Students Must
Have a minimum average
high school GPA of 2.0 in their junior
and senior years of high school OR identify
as first generation to attend college,
low-income, or a member of a
historically underrepresented
racial/ethnic group.
In building the Red Wing College Promise, we see the potential to better support students, families, schools, businesses, and the community as a whole.
The opportunity to grow the number of Red Wing high school graduates attending college, invest in the future of Minnesota State College Southeast, enhance Red Wing public schools, strengthen the workforce talent pipeline, and further distinguish Red Wing as a community that invests in its young people is a clear winning strategy for both organizations.
